Action

WOTW is founded on the premise that creative expression challenges perceptions and gives voice to marginalised people, and that there is intrinsic value in music as an effective therapeutic tool.

WOTW focuses on building confidence, a sense of self, and emotional expression through a programme of creative arts projects, recognising these as vital for children’s well-being amid such uncertainty..

  • I am Mohamed-Boatman, Big Chief and finally Dodo - .  I am part of the WOTW  (Windows on the World) creative team.

I am from Guinea and I have experienced the asylum system in Greece.

I am  a performer and I speak French, English, Greek, Soussou, Malinke.

To begin with, WotW is first of all an organization that gives me a lot of good and unforgettable moments, experiences, teaching me and all those innocent children who are kept inside four walls. I believe it’s the same for the children of the camp.

I have spent three long years in the camp and life in the camp was not at all easy for me. Seeing children being limited in their movement, staying around factories, smelling cement, not having the capacity to adapt to the environment, or moving to the city. I saw and know many children spending their daily life not doing or not living their own life, falling into a routine and being aggressive.

In my view, this project is vital for the children who are everywhere in the camps of Greece. I have met shy children, afraid of other cultures, races, or countries. Through various projects, they begin to get to know each other, singing, engaging in activities like drawing, playing, and learning musical instruments… that keep them connected, test their skills, and allow them to live briefly as children.

In addition, children integrate easily with music. They speak the same language, understand each other, and learn how to work as a team. I saw their motivation in participating in every activity. Some children initially struggled to communicate or pay attention in the previous project. Gradually, I noticed their increasing interest in taking part in the activities.

Children were proud to express themselves, singing and performing in front of their parents, who were present in large numbers. The parents were proud of the effort their children had achieved hand in hand.

I love my team and I am so proud to be part of it. Camps can be a dark place for children. I am delighted to be part of WOTW, which brings light, joy, and hope to those sweet and innocent children.
